Zombies: A Crash Course

Traffic jams suck. I rarely find myself in one since I skip upstream to NW indy in the am. Today was different. Aside from the annoying drivers who nearly cause a wreck trying to get around one and crying after coming upon the fate of a stranger in a red SUV, I enjoyed creeping along the highway for an extra 30ish minutes. Thank you, Zombies.

In early September my iPod was stollen. I guess my odds of being robbed increase when I own the most commonly stollen item in the US. Anywho, I bought a new one on our honeymoon. Not only is it new it is a new generation, which means even more space that I cannot fill. I thought about downloading a movie or episodes of Glee. That costs money. Then, I saw something worth looking into while sifting through the iTunes store.

iTunes offers free podcasts from Universities. The iTunes "app" is called "iTunesU". The first podcast that popped up read, "Zombies: An intro to Zombie Studies". Initially I thought it was stupid. Then, I read the description and saw the "free" button. Hey, it'll take up space on my iPod.

After listening to "Poker Face" and other garbage I remembered that I'd transferred the course on Zombies to my new iPod. So, I listened to the intro podcast. I suppose it's even more timely that Chrstopher I watched "28 Days Later" this past weekend. Scared the shit out of me. There were references made to this movie, which is very different than the original Zombie films, and I was glad to be able to revisit the movie with words from a Zombie expert. One thing that stuck out to me was how perfect Zombies are for film as opposed to other media. They do, they don't think.

Download it. It's free, it takes up space on your iPod and it gets you through traffic jams. Check out the hundreds of other podcasts while you're there. I'll be listening to the second podcast on my way home today. The subject will be the subtext in Zombie films.

Weee, Zombies!

3 trips in 1

Oops...talk about your unintended adventure. This dude started as a passenger in a small air force plane and ended up a rescued human rocket.

Here comes the bride...eeerwit

I've folded hundreds of paper cranes in the past 8 months.

If you're planning to wed within the next 2 years either start the process of wedding planning now or elope. 25 months of weddings has made the ritual 99% dull. I am constantly asked if I'm excited. I never know how to respond, so I just throw out the simple, "Yup." If people really wanted to listen I'd say:

I am very excited to be married to the awkward kid in the corner with whom I started a friendship in the belly of a ghost. We'll have crappies and our happies, but we're always going to be on the positive side of marriage statistics. He respects me. I'm excited to have that. I'm excited to celebrate with people who rule at life--to dance, to eat, to drink (only one), to laugh, to go home and...well, I'm honestly not too excited about that. But, I cannot wait to breathe. We've been running at a mostly steady pace with a few water stations along the way for a moment of refrehment. And if I have to hear 'Do you (name) take (name) to be...' 3 more times this year (I have 2 weddings to coordinate this Saturday) I swear I'll storm the stage and destroy all microphones and voiceboxes if it comes to that. You won't hear that at my wedding. Yup, I'm excited.

Goodbye, Ms. Boyd. Hello, Mrs. Newgent.

Jailbird

Jailbird

I recently read "Jailbird" by Vonnegut. I wouldn't put it on a favorites list, but the Indiana references make me feel like I'm a part of the book--especially living by BU just North of Crown Hill.

My least favorite part of the book was the way it wrapped up, which was honestly just lacking.

I don't want to write much more about the book. I'm honestly not too much of a reviewer. I just wanted to point out a few things and maybe hear some feedback from anyone who has read the book or another of Vonnegut's.

I wish I had more time to read...
